Putting the A in STEMInspire Your Child’s Creativity
Most STEM resources are either dry and standards-mapped, or fun but disconnected from any standard. Creative Dad Company gives you both — hands-on STEM + art projects that are genuinely fun and tied to real education standards, made for afterschool programs and homeschoolers.

How it works
Every level is a real, hands-on experience
Quick Start isn’t a lesser version — it’s the same immersive idea, right-sized for today.
Quick Start
The same real activity, stripped to its leanest form — minimal prep, materials you already have, done in one sitting.
Full Experience
The complete build, with real materials and a bit more setup — the fully realized version of the project.
Total Transformation
A full immersive event — the room becomes the world of the project, with props, roles to play, and a real audience for the showcase.
One project. Three ways to run it.
Real project, real numbers — this is exactly what changes when you pick a level for “Constellation Storytelling Lanterns.”
Constellation Storytelling Lanterns
Just black paper, push pins, and LED tea lights — punch the constellation, read the myth aloud, and you're done in one sitting.

This isn’t just our opinion
Blending art into STEM is a real, studied approach — here’s what the research actually says.
Combining art with STEM instruction has been shown to increase engagement, improve access for groups underrepresented in STEM, and improve learning outcomes.
International Journal of STEM Education, 2022 ↗In a classroom study, leading with the art before the science produced significantly higher science learning gains than teaching the science first.
Discover Education (Springer Nature), 2024 ↗Arts-integrated STEM has been linked to higher student self-efficacy and STEM-specific interest — not just enjoyment of the activity itself.
Bridging Art and Science, SCIRP, 2023 ↗“The goal is to foster the true innovation that comes with combining the mind of a scientist with that of an artist or designer.”
Rhode Island School of Design, on why it started the STEM-to-STEAM movement ↗Questions? Answers.
Do I need a science background to run these?+
No. Every project comes with plain-language setup and activity steps, and the Quick Start version needs no special equipment or expertise — just common or recycled materials.
What if my budget is tight?+
Every project has a Quick Start version that runs $1–5 per group using paper and recycled materials. Full Experience and Total Transformation are optional upgrades, not requirements.
Is this for classrooms, afterschool programs, or home?+
All three. It's built for afterschool programs and homeschool families, and classroom teachers use it too.
Do these actually count toward standards?+
Yes — every project in the library is tied to real NGSS or state standards you can see on its page. There's also a free Standards Checker tool if you want to check your own lesson idea.
What's actually free versus paid?+
Browsing the full library, every commitment level for every project, and the Standards Checker are free. A subscription unlocks the extra atmosphere ideas, printable packs, and digital tools for each project.
Where do the materials come from?+
Each project links to real products you can buy — no guessing what to shop for. We're an Amazon Associate, and that's disclosed on every materials list.

Satellite Emergency Network
Teens design a backup emergency-communication network that keeps working when cell towers and normal internet go down, using simple relay and range concepts to plan coverage. It's resilient-systems thinking for a very real disaster scenario.
Materials list · 3 itemsPublic-Health Outbreak Simulation
Teens model how a simulated illness spreads through a small population, then have to communicate uncertain public-health decisions—like when to recommend closing a school—to a worried mock community. It captures just how messy real epidemiology decisions actually are.
Materials list · 3 itemsDisaster Logistics Command
Students take on the role of emergency managers, allocating limited trucks, supplies, and staff across a simulated disaster map where roads keep closing. It's a tense, strategic exercise in doing the most good with never quite enough resources.
Materials list · 3 itemsSearch-and-Rescue Robot Course
Teams program a simple rolling robot to navigate a mock disaster course, then adapt its code on the fly when obstacles shift mid-mission.
Materials list · 3 itemsEarthquake Recovery Architects
Teams test model buildings on a simple shake table, then plan which damaged community services — hospital, water, power — get rebuilt first with limited funds.
Materials list · 3 itemsDrone Disaster-Mapping Simulation
Teams plan a simulated drone flight path to map a disaster zone, balancing full area coverage against a strict battery-life limit.
Materials list · 3 itemsFlood-Resilient City Studio
Young urban planners model a flood-prone neighborhood and test drainage designs, weighing tradeoffs between protecting homes, roads, and green space on a tight budget.
Materials list · 3 itemsFuture Fashion Survival Lab
Kids imagine a future climate, whether scorching, flooded, or freezing, then design and test a piece of wearable gear that would actually help someone survive it. It's a creative fashion challenge grounded in real material testing.
Materials list · 3 itemsRescue Beacon Engineers
Kids build a coded signaling device, like a flashing light pattern or a sound-based code, that a rescue team across the room has to detect and correctly decode. It makes communication engineering feel like a real emergency mission.
Materials list · 3 itemsDisaster-Relief Packaging Team
Kids act as an aid organization, designing crates that protect fragile supplies and ration limited food and water fairly among model families. It's a hands-on lesson in engineering under real-world constraints, with an emotional stake that keeps kids invested.
Materials list · 3 itemsFlooded Town Command Center
Kids build a model town on a slanted tray, pour on rainfall, and watch where the water pools and floods before redesigning the drainage system to protect the buildings. It turns watershed science into a hands-on rescue mission with a satisfying before-and-after payoff.
Materials list · 3 itemsRescue Helicopter Drop
Kids design a parachute or glider that can carry a supply package safely down to a target. It's an exciting engineering challenge that ends in an official rescue mission.
Materials list · 3 itemsVolcano Evacuation Planners
Kids study a model volcano and map out safe evacuation routes for pretend townspeople. It's a hands-on way to connect earth science with real map-reading and planning skills.
Materials list · 3 itemsStorybook Rescue Zipline
Kids engineer a working zipline to rescue a storybook character stranded across a gap. It's an exciting blend of physics and storytelling that ends in a dramatic live rescue performance.
Materials list · 3 itemsRain-Puddle Road Crew
Kids build a dirt road with drainage channels and test it against a rainstorm, fixing floods as they go so the delivery truck can get through. A muddy, satisfying engineering challenge about water and land.
Materials list · 3 itemsLost Penguin Rescue
Kids test foil, cotton, and felt to find the best insulation for keeping a lost penguin's icy home from melting. A cool, hands-on intro to insulation for the youngest scientists.
