Setup

Gather only common or recycled items needed to build model meal trays, feeding stations, and habitat sections, measuring out labeled quantities for each stage. Place the materials beside a simple recording sheet or blank paper, and prepare the Very Hungry Caterpillar Café challenge in one working area; no digital device is needed.

Activity

  1. Study the life-cycle cards to learn what caterpillars and butterflies need to eat and where they live at each stage.
  2. Build model meal trays, feeding stations, and habitat sections, measuring out labeled quantities for each stage.
  3. An order comes in for the wrong stage — food or habitat that doesn't match — and the café team has to catch the mistake and fix it.
  4. Serve the corrected order and explain to the customer how it will change as it grows into its next life stage.

Done when: The learner completes Very Hungry Caterpillar Café after carrying out this core test: An order comes in for the wrong stage — food or habitat that doesn't match — and the café team has to catch the mistake and fix it. The learner then uses that result to complete the final task: Serve the corrected order and explain to the customer how it will change as it grows into its next life stage.
