Setup

Gather only common or recycled items needed to construct three small beds using different amounts of cotton, cardboard, or fabric layers, one for each bear size. Place the materials beside a simple recording sheet or blank paper, and prepare the Three Bears Bed Lab challenge in one working area; no digital device is needed.

Activity

  1. Retell the Goldilocks story and predict which materials will feel too hard, too soft, or just right for a bear bed.
  2. Construct three small beds using different amounts of cotton, cardboard, or fabric layers, one for each bear size.
  3. Test each bed by pressing down with a hand or setting a small toy on it, discovering the softest bed sags too much and needs an extra cardboard layer for support.
  4. Have the toy bears try out each bed in order and declare a winner, explaining which properties made it just right.
