Setup

Gather only common or recycled items needed to test one hypothesis by adjusting a single condition, such as moving the plant or changing its watering schedule. Place the materials beside a simple recording sheet or blank paper, and prepare the Plant Detective Agency challenge in one working area; no digital device is needed.

Activity

  1. Observe a struggling plant and predict what might be wrong, like too little light or too much or too little water.
  2. Test one hypothesis by adjusting a single condition, such as moving the plant or changing its watering schedule.
  3. Check the plant over several days and discover the first fix didn't help, then try a different clue-based fix.
  4. Present a final diagnosis and care plan explaining what the plant needed to recover.
