Setup

Gather only common or recycled items needed to test each powder's texture and how it dissolves in water, recording clues on a detective sheet. Place the materials beside a simple recording sheet or blank paper, and prepare the Mystery Powder Detectives challenge in one working area; no digital device is needed.

Activity

  1. Observe each mystery powder closely and predict which kitchen substance it might be.
  2. Test each powder's texture and how it dissolves in water, recording clues on a detective sheet.
  3. Add a drop of vinegar to each sample and discover a fizzing reaction that changes the investigation, then retest carefully.
  4. Present the final detective report, revealing the identity of each mystery powder with evidence.
