Setup

Gather seeds, clear cups or bags, paper towels and clear a small work surface. Read the Little Seed Hospital mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

Activity

  1. Examine a few sprouting seeds and a few dry-looking seeds, predicting what each one might be missing.
  2. Set up small seed patients in damp paper-towel beds inside cups or bags, giving each one a different amount of light or water.
  3. Check the seeds daily and notice one patient is getting moldy from too much water, then adjust its care by drying it out slightly.
  4. Report to the seed hospital board which patients recovered and what they needed to grow strong.
