Setup

Gather allergy-safe foods, small bowls, spoons and clear a small work surface. Read the Little Chef Texture Lab mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

Activity

  1. Look at and touch a few safe food ingredients and predict how each one's texture might change when mixed or mashed, with adult help for any warming.
  2. Combine the foods in small bowls, mashing a banana or crushing a cracker with a spoon.
  3. Compare the mixed textures to the originals, discovering a mixture turned mushier than expected, then add a drier ingredient to balance it.
  4. Present the texture lab report, describing each change using words like smooth, crumbly, or gooey.
