Setup

Gather blue paper, lily-pad cutouts, toy frogs and clear a small work surface. Read the Frog Pond Rescue mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

Activity

  1. Look at a pond layout and predict how far apart lily pads can be for a frog to safely jump between them.
  2. Build the pond scene, placing lily pad cutouts at different distances across the blue paper.
  3. Test the frog's jumps across the pads, discovering one gap is too wide for a successful landing, then move that lily pad closer.
  4. Guide the frog safely across every lily pad to its home and describe the habitat features that helped along the way.
