Setup

Gather plastic eggs, cotton, foil and clear a small work surface. Read the Dragon Egg Incubator mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

Activity

  1. Predict which materials will keep a dragon egg warmest and set the scene for a hatching countdown.
  2. Build an insulated nest around the plastic egg using cotton, foil, and bubble wrap layers.
  3. Place the egg under a lamp and check the temperature, discovering it cools faster than expected, then add more insulation.
  4. Present the finished incubator and temperature log, explaining which layers kept the egg warmest.
