Setup

Gather string, a paper cup, dry beans, tape, and a toy dragon beside a cardboard castle or small box. Tie the string to the bean-filled cup so the dragon can pull it and create an audible mechanical alarm without electricity.

Activity

  1. Predict where a dragon could enter the castle and where a guard would need an alarm.
  2. Build a non-electric trip line that tips or shakes a paper cup containing dry beans when the toy dragon crosses the gate.
  3. Test the dragon at three approach points, mark any missed entry, and reposition the string or cup.
  4. Demonstrate the revised alarm detecting the dragon while allowing a friendly toy figure through a chosen safe path.
