Setup

Gather play dough, shape cutters, plastic knives and clear a small work surface. Read the Bakery Shape Inspectors mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

Activity

  1. Look at a bakery order sheet asking for pastries in specific shapes and equal pieces.
  2. Build the pastries from play dough, using cookie cutters to form circles, squares, and triangles.
  3. Divide a large pretend pie into equal slices with adult help using a plastic knife, discovering the pieces are uneven, then re-cut them more carefully.
  4. Serve the finished, evenly divided pastries and describe each shape and how many equal parts it has.
