Setup

Place common or recycled supplies for Museum of Impossible Machines on one work surface and choose a safe area for the test. Read the four activity directions aloud; drawings, paper models, and household substitutes may replace specialized materials, and no digital tool is required.

Activity

  1. Watch a magic-trick-style illusion and predict what real mechanism, like magnets or hidden strings, could be making it work.

  3. Test the illusion on a partner, then redesign a hidden part when they spot the trick too easily or the mechanism fails to work smoothly.
  4. Open the museum exhibit to visitors, performing each illusion and then revealing the real science behind it.
