Kids invent an alien organism with specific needs, then design a habitat capsule that keeps it alive on a hostile pretend planet. It's a creative-writing and life-science mashup that makes students think hard about what any living thing actually requires to survive.

Setup

Place common or recycled supplies for Alien Embassy Life-Support Team on one work surface and choose a safe area for the test. Read the four activity directions aloud; drawings, paper models, and household substitutes may replace specialized materials, and no digital tool is required.

Activity

  1. Invent an alien creature and its survival needs, including air, water, temperature, and food, then predict what a hostile planet environment would threaten first.
  2. Build a habitat capsule inside a shoebox that supplies each of the creature's needs using craft materials.
  3. Test the habitat by describing a planetary hazard, like extreme cold or no water, then redesign a system when the habitat can't handle it.
  4. Present the finished embassy habitat to the class, explaining how each part keeps the alien alive.

Done when: The group produces the Alien Embassy Life-Support Team solution, completes the described test, makes the revision called for by the evidence, and supports its final explanation with an observed or measured result.
