Castle Security Engineers
Log in to saveKids build a simple alarm system to protect a cardboard castle from a sneaky dragon. It's a fun way to explore circuits or sound signals while playing knight-in-charge of home defense.

Every level teaches the same core idea — pick the one that fits your time, budget, and energy today.
Setup
Gather string, a paper cup, dry beans, tape, and a toy dragon beside a cardboard castle or small box. Tie the string to the bean-filled cup so the dragon can pull it and create an audible mechanical alarm without electricity.
Activity
- Predict where a dragon could enter the castle and where a guard would need an alarm.
- Build a non-electric trip line that tips or shakes a paper cup containing dry beans when the toy dragon crosses the gate.
- Test the dragon at three approach points, mark any missed entry, and reposition the string or cup.
- Demonstrate the revised alarm detecting the dragon while allowing a friendly toy figure through a chosen safe path.
Done when: Children complete the core mission and the finished security system catching a surprise toy dragon at the castle gate.
Materials
Battery-powered buzzer or bell, cardboard, aluminum foil strips, tape, batteries

Steps
- Predict how the castle guards could sense a sneaking dragon before it gets close.
- Build a simple trip-wire or circuit alarm using foil, a buzzer, and battery power.
- Test the alarm and discover it triggers too easily or not at all, then adjust the sensitivity or wiring.
- Demonstrate the finished security system catching a surprise toy dragon at the castle gate.
