Setup

Gather assorted candy or counters, rulers, sorting cups and clear a small work surface. Read the Candy Factory Quality Control mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

Activity

  1. Look at a sample bag of candy and predict which color will show up most often.
  2. Sort the candies by color and measure a few pieces to check they meet the factory's size standard.
  3. Graph the sorted results and discover a miscounted pile, then recount and correct the graph.
  4. Present the quality control report to the factory manager, explaining which batch passed inspection.
