Setup

Gather only common or recycled items needed to build a simple sound map by drawing where each sound seemed to come from. Place the materials beside a simple recording sheet or blank paper, and prepare the Sound Safari challenge in one working area; no digital device is needed.

  1. Close your eyes and listen carefully as different hidden objects are tapped, shaken, or crinkled around the room.
  2. Build a simple sound map by drawing where each sound seemed to come from.
  3. Compare guesses to the real hiding spots, discovering a muffled sound was actually much closer than it seemed, and talk about why walls or fabric changed it.
  4. Lead a family member on their own sound safari, giving clues based on what was learned about how sound travels.
