Setup

Gather animal picture cards, toy animals, natural materials and clear a small work surface. Read the Animal Home Architects mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

  1. Match animal picture cards to the type of home each one needs, like a burrow, nest, or den.
  2. Build a small model home for one animal using sticks, leaves, cotton, or fabric that fits its needs.
  3. Test the home by seeing if a toy version of the animal fits inside, discovering the entrance is too small and needs to be widened.
  4. Give a short house tour explaining why the chosen materials and shape suit that animal.
