Setup

Gather craft sticks, tape, counting bears and clear a small work surface. Read the Fairy Bridge Inspectors mission aloud, then place the supplies where children can choose and compare them safely.

Activity

  1. Look at pictures of different bridges and imagine how a tiny fairy might need one to cross a river made from a strip of blue paper.
  2. Build a small bridge from craft sticks and tape between two stacks of blocks.
  3. Load the bridge with counting bears one at a time, counting how many it holds until it sags, then reinforce the weak spot with extra sticks.
  4. Post an inspection sign showing the bridge's final weight limit and demonstrate it holding that many bears safely.

Done when: Children complete the core mission and post an inspection sign showing the bridge's final weight limit and demonstrate it holding that many bears safely.
