Kids plan a pretend food-truck menu, balancing a nutrition checklist, a tight budget, and a no-waste rule, then run a mock service to see if their plan actually holds up. It's a lively way to practice budgeting, health, and systems thinking together.

Setup

Place common or recycled supplies for Sustainable Food-Truck Lab on one work surface and choose a safe area for the test. Read the four activity directions aloud; drawings, paper models, and household substitutes may replace specialized materials, and no digital tool is required.

Activity

  1. Review a nutrition checklist and a budget limit, then predict which menu items will fit both while minimizing waste.
  2. Build the final menu and prep a mock kitchen workflow for taking and filling orders.
  3. Test the menu by running a round of mock orders, then revise pricing, portions, or the workflow when costs run over budget or food goes to waste.
  4. Present the finished food-truck plan to investors, explaining how it balances nutrition, cost, and waste.
