Kids study real data about local pollinators, then redesign a model park or schoolyard with the plants and features that would actually attract and support them. It's an ecosystem lesson that ends in kids advocating for a real, buildable idea.

Setup

Place common or recycled supplies for Pollinator City Council on one work surface and choose a safe area for the test. Read the four activity directions aloud; drawings, paper models, and household substitutes may replace specialized materials, and no digital tool is required.

Activity

  1. Review data on which plants attract local pollinators and predict which additions would help the most in the model park.
  2. Build the redesigned park map, adding pollinator-friendly plants and features in specific locations.
  3. Test the design by checking it against a pollinator's needs checklist, then revise the layout when a needed plant or water source is missing.
  4. Present the redesigned park to the city council, explaining how each change supports pollinators.
