Students inherit a cardboard arcade full of frustrating, unfair, or broken games. They diagnose the mechanism — ramps, levers, pulleys, or launchers — repair it, and use real play-test data to prove it's fair.

Setup

Place common or recycled supplies for Arcade Rescue Company on one work surface and choose a safe area for the test. Read the four activity directions aloud; drawings, paper models, and household substitutes may replace specialized materials, and no digital tool is required.

Activity

  1. Play-test the broken arcade game and diagnose which mechanism (ramp, lever, pulley, or launcher) is causing it to be frustrating or unfair.
  2. Repair or redesign the game and set clear scoring rules.
  3. A player discovers a strategy that breaks the scoring system — collect play-test data to find the loophole and rebalance the rules.
  4. Reopen the arcade and defend the game's fairness to the class using your performance data.
